Arthritis/rheumatism and osteoporosis

Back painThis chronic disorder in the joints and muscles causes pain, swelling and stiffness especially in the morning or after sitting still for a while, resulting in reduced strength and mobility. Some persons suffer in one joint, others in several. There are different types: rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, tendinitis ...
Chronic inflammation reactions have a negative impact on bone development and calcium absorption and should therefore be treated without delay. Persons with an inflammatory type of arthritis run a greater risk of developing osteoporosis.

The importance of nutrition

In my practice as a nutritionist I have experienced that nutrition can play a major role. The susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis or another type of arthritis or rheumatism can be induced by a hypersensitivity to certain food products. Most people who have arthritis find that their symptoms are reduced when they avoid certain food products. And their quality of sleep also improves. This is very important because a good night’s rest ensures the production of the HGH growth hormone, required for maximum muscle recovery. This is about “triggers” which induce certain reactions, sometimes 12 to 24 hours after intake. Examples include morning stiffness, pain and swelling and other additional symptoms such as gastrointestinal symptoms, nose complaints, itchy skin or rash, headache, shortness of breath, night sweats, fluid retention (swollen ankles, fingers, swollen eye lids, ...) and tiredness. It is possible for someone to react to a food product he or she ate the previous day during the night or even the next morning.

Inflammations

Neck painAllergies and intolerances can lead to inflammations of the connective tissue, which forms the structure of muscles and tendons. The synovial membrane (synovium) also gets inflamed and the muscles around the joint are weakened. Excessive strain may lead to injuries. This may damage bones, cartilage, tendon structures and ligaments. The inflammatory reaction affects the most sensitive places in the body. Knee problems, for example, often occur in case of intolerances because the tendon connections are weak spots. Food triggers often cause knee problems in young children. Back, neck and shoulders also often become inflamed. Other potentially affected sites include hands, pulses and feet.
Certain food hypersensitivity reactions are noted more often or perceived more intensely when you have an infection or suffer from a hormonal imbalance which will usually strengthen the symptoms.
