Nutrition and diseases of civilisation

Rest Adults, but also children and teenagers are increasingly suffering from extreme tiredness and symptoms such as stomach ache, headache, sleep disorders or muscle and joint pains. These problems may occur suddenly or increase during or after an infection, a stress situation or hormonal fluctuations (PMS). It is striking that the majority has had stomach aches/colic since they were children, or were whiny babies or difficult eaters or were called hyperactive (ADHD).

People come to see me with a whole variety of problems. As a nutritionist I have discovered that by avoiding certain food products or applying some measures for a better digestion, these symptoms can easily be restricted or disappear completely. Therefore, the best way is to find out about your food intolerances, even as a child, to avoid certain aches or extreme tiredness. The problem with food hypersensitivity is that some reactions occur very late and that not all food hypersensitivities can be found through blood analyses. Therefore expert guidance is of great importance to effectively detect the food intolerances.

The good news is that once the culprits are known and avoided mental symptoms such as concentration problems, confusion, irritability, nostalgia/depression, aggressiveness can also simultaneously be strongly reduced. Besides, the quality of sleep is significantly improved which for some implies a better sleep pattern, less night sweats or nightmares and less restless legs and snoring.

The importance of individual advice

Have you been looking for answers for quite some time and are you starting to think it is “all in your head”? Don’t! Many of our physical symptoms are related to our diet. And one person can have a hypersensitivity reaction to different food products and react to it in different ways. So it is almost never enough to eliminate 1 aspect of your diet. That is why individual, tailor-made dietary advice is a necessity. If you apply the adjusted food scheme, several of your symptoms will disappear quickly and you will soon learn which food elements trigger a reaction and how you can avoid it!

The book ‘Eet wat bij je past’ (Eat what suits you) is highly recommended for everyone who has been looking for solutions for chronic symptoms, who does not feel he or she is getting helped and sometimes hears people say that the symptoms are “all in his or her head”.
