The role of food to support sports achievements and recovery of sports injuries.
In order to achieve a maximum sports performance every athlete should take into account different factors:
- The amount of carbohydrates an athlete has to take in before, during and after the performance are defined by the duration and intensity of the performance. Insufficient intake of carbohydrates can also lead to muscle breakdown.
- Other factors which may lead to a reduced sports performance are:
- too low blood sugar level (hypo)
- creatine exhaustion
- lactic acid accumulation
- dehydration
- lack of vitamins/minerals such as iron
- sleep deficiency
- reduced condition
If the athlete controls these factors and still suffers from tiredness or (too) slow recovery of injuries, he may be suffering from pseudo-allergies and/or food intolerances.
Not enough athletes know that (pseudo-)allergies and intolerances may have a negative impact on their sports performance. That is why it usually takes too long before they are noticed and requires the athlete to drastically reduce his exercising programme or even quit exercising all together. Also during stress moments or an infection the susceptibility for certain triggers can be increased in athletes.
Do you think you are suffering from a pseudo-allergy and/or food intolerance? Do you want to get back to your top level? High time to take measures!
