Food and hypersensitivity
Pseudo-allergies and food intolerances
Normal classical allergies can be measured in the blood and are also known by most people. But pseudo-allergies are a different story. Let me explain.
A late allergic reaction.
Imagine. You are enjoying a plate of fruit salad. However, you do not know that your body has an “allergic” reaction to one of the fruit types ... only, the reaction does not come immediately, but several hours to 24 hours later. This is a pseudo-allergy: your reaction is allergic without your body creating antibodies (and therefore, without the intervention of your immune system).
Because this type of reactions often occur after eating or even 12 to 14 hours after the meal, your complaints also start later and certainly at a time when you have long forgotten about your fruit salad ... so you think nothing is wrong when you have your next serving. This may lead to chronic complaints.
What does a pseudo-allergy do exactly?
Pseudo-allergies lead to inflammations. These reactions are difficult to detect in the blood because no antibodies are generated.
In case of a pseudo-allergy, people are hypersensitive to histamine and tyramine, the so-called “biogenic amines”.
- It is important to get to know our “triggers” (the food products which induce an allergic reaction) and, especially, to avoid them during stress periods (also in case of infections, etc.): at these moments the reaction can be much more intense.
- The good news is: in times of stress, simply by changing your food patterns you can achieve very good results in relatively short time span!
